Zan Tetickovic, Drums | Spring '15 Ensemble & Recital Series | School of Jazz

School of Jazz Performance Space, Room I531, Arnhold Hall
General Public

Zan will finish his four-year long journey of studies at The New School with an event to remember, as he will finally premiere his long-awaited, vigorous and inspired by music from Balkan regions, a highly unique big band project “Oasis” (that took place in Europe last year) in the New York City.

For this occasion, he has composed two new pieces, which will be premiered on this event. The senior recital will take place on Thursday, April 16th at 7pm sharp in the performance space on the 5th floor of the School of Jazz’s Arnhold Hall.

Aside from being a drummer and a percussionist, ever since moving to New York City in 2011, Zan has also been just as equally active in theory, composition and arranging, and has with two highly acclaimed “ASCAP Young Jazz Composers” awards (2012,2014), a “Jazzon Master Composition 2012” award, a Downbeat Performance award (2014) and numerous musical projects where he has been active as a drummer and a composer(Balchemy, Balkan Jazz Trio, Zan Tetickovic Quintet and Octet and other side projects) proven that the choices to devote time to these fields have been the right ones. Despite being known as stylistically all-rounded and a versatile artist, his roots can be well felt in all of his work. With combining rich music from his home (Balkan music), jazz and classical music, his work contains a unique sonic signature listeners find very often hard to resist. His senior recital will be a magical musical event containing all of the artistic qualities and choices that define Zan both as an entrepreneur and person, so this is an event not to
be missed.

Joining him will be a 16-piece ensemble formed in a style of classical American jazz orchestra, featuring some of the world’s most promising young musicians. The orchestra will be conducted by Dean Buck.

This recital is sponsored by the School of Jazz.
