This event is now sold out.

Join us at The New School's Tishman Auditorium (63 Fifth Avenue) for an evening celebrating the paperback release of Swing Time. Since her debut with White Teeth, Zadie Smith has dazzled readers with her kaleidoscopic, keenly observed tales of couples, families, friendships, and communities drawn together and riven by interpersonal and world-historical forces. With Swing Time, she traces the lives of two women from their youth as aspiring dancers through their diverging paths in London and around the world.

Zadie will be in conversation with Jia Tolentino, whose writing at the New Yorker runs from literature old and new to music, film, and elsewhere, for a conversation about Swing Time and a life on the page.

Zadie Smith is an English novelist, essayist, and short story writer. She was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2002. In a 2004 BBC poll of cultural researchers, Smith was named among the top twenty most influential people in British culture. As of 2016, she has published five novels. In 2003, she was included on Granta's list of 20 best young authors, and was also included in the 2013 list. She joined New York University's Creative Writing Program as a tenured professor in 2010. Smith has won the Orange Prize for Fiction and the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award in 2006 and her novel White Teeth was included in Time magazine's list of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005.
