WMI Plus: Native American Flute Workshop - presented in collaboration with the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music

Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 7:00 pm

School of Jazz Performance Space, Room I531, Arnhold Hall 55 West 13th Street, New York, NY 10011

In this Native American flute making workshop, you will learn first hand what makes a Native American flute so unique. Each participant will choose the wood they want to use for their flute and you will have the chance to search, experiment, and discover which piece to attach to your flute to give it a unique voice. You will learn how to tune your flute and you will also have time to decorate your instrument using a beading method that's common amongst the indigenous Wixaritari people of western Mexico. The class will play a bit too!

Workshop led by Jay Loomis. Check out photos from previous workshops.

WMI PLUS Experiences are supported by a grant from Con Edison.

Presented by World Music Institute in collaboration with the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at The New School.
