Poverty and war have had a catastrophic effect on both children's and adults' education. In the current political climate, millions have been displaced and settled in camps without basic necessities, much less any form of education. As ESL instructors, can we play a role to support these individuals through our teaching profession by volunteering? What role does English actually play in their lives? This webinar will explore these questions based on first-hand interactions with refugees in multiple contexts.

Jenifah Abu-Hassan is a senior instructor at the American University of Sharjah and has taught English and ESL for over 20 years. She enjoys reading and being with her students. Currently, she wants to bring her knowledge of the English language into the field of volunteering.

This is a webinar from the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Department at The New School - presented by Jenifah Abu-Hassan.
