Teaching & Learning Languages Online at the New School: Innovations Panel & Workshop

The New School Foreign Languages Department will host a workshop in relation to their ongoing innovations in teaching and learning languages in online platforms. The workshop will specifically broach the department's Online Synchronous Pilot (currently in Year 2) which features "real time" introductory courses in French, Japanese, and Spanish. These courses run in an innovative virtual platform where the class meets synchronously twice a week in "real time". The goal of the pilot is for learning and teaching to emulate the traditional in-person foreign language classroom.

The workshop will explore various components of course delivery and the best ways to increase students’ engagement and active learning; including best web tools to maximize engagement, the use of I-pads in Japanese online teaching, and tools for online assessment. This workshop is intended for Foreign Language faculty currently teaching online and/ or hybrid courses, or faculty who would like to integrate online tools into their teaching.

Presented by The New School's Foreign Languages Department.
