Student Recital - Warren Galea

Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 5:00 pm

School of Jazz Performance Space, Room I531, Arnhold Hall 55 West 13th Street, New York, NY 10011

This concert will primarily showcase original material from Warren’s upcoming record, to be released in January 2019, which will be his debut album as a leader and a foray into the New York jazz scene. Featuring talented fellow New School students Andy McKee (bass) and Henry Mermer (drums), the senior recital will also include previously released material.

Warren’s music layers modern jazz harmonies on top of grooves rooted in genres such as hip hop and drum and bass. Like a common thread across the textures evoked by the trio within different compositions runs a melodic lyricism wherein the guitar is always the singer.

Warren Galea is a multi-instrumentalist and composer from the island of Malta, currently residing in Brooklyn, New York. He has performed in contexts ranging from musicals and orchestral concerts to jazz festivals and rock shows. In addition to being a guitar player, electric bass player, keyboardist and clarinetist, he also produces electronic music.
