Graduation Recital at School of Jazz and Contemporary Studies - Eric Hu, saxophone

School of Jazz Performance Space, Room I531, Arnhold Hall

General Public

Eric Hu will debut a series of original compositions written for his octet as the culmination of his studies at the New School for Jazz. Drawing from jazz tradition as well as contemporary sounds, Eric’s music blends lyrical sensibility with rhythmic and contrapuntal complexity to create a fresh approach to jazz composition and improvisation that promises to capture the ears of both jazz aficionados and casual listeners.

An up-and-coming saxophonist based in New York City, Eric Hu has already begun making waves in the jazz scene. His recent work includes a bi-weekly residency at Piano’s NYC, as well as performances with the New School Studio Orchestra, where he plays tenor saxophone and clarinet. In 2018, Eric appeared on his record date with the Benjamin Appel Sextet on the album Setting Sail as the featured tenor saxophonist.
