Andrew Skepasts will be performing his Senior Recital at 9pm this December 14th, in the Performance Space, room 531, Arnold Hall. Featuring Solomon Gottfried on bass and Jacob Patrone on drums, this trio will be exploring Andrew’s original music written throughout his time at The New School, as well as debuting some new work. Having formed when first meeting at The New School, this trio has been playing together for the past two years. During this time, they have been working on developing a unique group sound, influenced by a wide range of jazz
The music selected for this event will mainly feature harmonically dense compositions, with simple folk-like melodies tying the music together. Recently, Skepasts has been composing using a variety of rhythmic concepts to open up his music, incorporating multiple pulses and exploring the different relationships these create. This event will be a representation of his time in The School of Jazz at The New School.
Andrew Skepasts is a guitarist and composer based in New York City. He is currently finishing off his degree at The New School's School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. After moving to New York in 2015, Andrew spent two years at The City College of New York before transfering to The New School. Since moving to New York, he has been able to study with some of the world’s finest musicians, including many he grew up listening to such as Lage Lund, Aaron Parks and Peter Bernstein. These experiences have given Andrew an insight into the music that he could not have gained otherwise, as well as opened him up to different varieties of jazz and styles of music. As an up and coming young musician, you can find Andrew playing at venues throughout the city such as Shapeshifter Lab and Cornelia Street Café.
Presented by The New School's Mannes School of Music.
