The Auditorium, Room A106, Alvin Johnson/J.M. Kaplan Hall 66 West 12th Street, New York, NY 10011

Featuring Linda Camacho, Prospect Agency; Susan Hawk, The Bent Agency; and Andrea Somberg, Harvey Klinger, Inc. Adria Quiñones, moderator, and hosted by Caron Levis, faculty, The New School Creative Writing Program.

Adria Quiñones is a wildly successful technical writer who began writing novels for kids in order to have the experience of writing something that someone actually wanted to read. Adria is a regular contributor to the Metro-NYC SCBWI‘s blog and was a winner of the SCBWI 2014 Midwinter Conference’s prestigious joke contest. In January 2015, Adria was named one of the winners of SCBWI’s Emerging Voices Award for her middle-grade novel, The Disappeared.

Linda Camacho joined Prospect Agency in 2015 after nearly a decade in publishing. After graduating from Cornell University, Linda interned at Simon & Schuster and Writers House literary agency, and worked at Penguin before happily settling into children's marketing at Random House. She has an MFA in creative writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. In terms of submissions, she's pretty omnivorous. She enjoys a variety of categories and genres, ranging from picture book to adult, from clean and lighthearted contemporary to edgy and dark fantasy. Follow Linda on Twitter: @LindaRandom

Susan Hawk is a literary agent at The Bent Agency, representing middle grade, YA, picture books, and nonfiction for kids.  Projects she represents share powerful and original writing, strong story-telling and a distinctive, sometimes off-kilter voice.  In middle grade and YA, she’s looking for unforgettable characters, rich world-building, and she’s a sucker for bittersweet; bonus points for something that makes her laugh out loud.  In picture books, she’s looking particularly for author/illustrators, succinct but expressive texts, and indelible characters. Her favorite projects live at the intersection of literary and commercial.  Before agenting, she spent fifteen years in children's book marketing at Penguin, Henry Holt and North-South Books; she also worked in editorial at Dutton Children’s Books, and as a children’s librarian and bookseller. and@susanhawk on Twitter.

Andrea Somberg, a literary agent for over fifteen years, represents a wide range of titles, including projects for young adult and middle grade audiences.  Previously an agent at the Donald Maass Agency and Vigliano Associates, she joined Harvey Klinger Literary Agency in the spring of 2005. Her clients' books have been New York Times and USA bestsellers and nominated for The Governor General's Award, the Lambda Award, the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award, the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award, YALSA awards, and selected for state-wide reading lists.  Andrea also teaches courses for MediaBistro and Writers Digest.
