SHAHZIA SIKANDER: Parsons Fine Arts Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 7:00 pm

Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Auditorium (Room N101), Sheila C. Johnson Design Center 66 Fifth Avenue New York, NY 10003

Shahzia Sikander's practice takes Indo-Persian miniature painting as a point of departure, challenging its strict formal tropes as well as its medium-based restrictions by experimenting with scale and media. Her process-based work examines the forces at stake in contested cultural and political histories. Solo exhibitions include Sikkema Jenkins and Co., NY; The Renaissance Society, Chicago; The Hirshhorn Museum, Washington DC; ArtPace, San Antonio, Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, CT; Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.

The Visiting Artists Lecture Series is sponsored by the School of Art, Media, and Technology (AMT) at Parsons The New School for Design. The lecture series invites renowned artists from across the globe to give free public presentations each Wednesday.
