National Portfolio Day 2019

National Portfolio Day 2019

Parsons Paris
Prospective Students

Parsons Paris is thrilled to host National Portfolio Day on November 16, 2019. Please register online here.

National Portfolio Day is an event created to further the artistic development of young artists and designers. Held each year in multiple locations across the United States, as well as several cities abroad, National Portfolio Day is a unique opportunity to meet individually with professional representatives from accredited colleges and universities. These professionals can provide valuable feedback and guidance on your portfolio. Additionally, you will have the chance to discuss each specific school’s programs and ask questions about art and design careers.

High school students, parents, teachers, guidance counselors and college transfer students are encouraged to attend. This event is also open to prospective graduate students. National Portfolio Day is not an examination or competition.

No admissions decisions or scholarship awards will be offered to you at National Portfolio Day. Some colleges and universities represented may accept your portfolio as the visual portion of your application, while others may require a separate portfolio submission in your admissions application. We encourage you to discuss your work with as many different representatives as possible throughout the event.

You’ll hear many different opinions of your work. When meeting with representatives, you may explain how you develop your ideas. Sharing the process of arriving at the completed work is often as valuable as presenting finished products.

National Portfolio Day inspires young artists and designers as it may be the first time they are surrounded by others who share a powerful commitment to art and design. It offers a small glimpse into what it is like to be a part of a professional art and design program. The event is an opportunity to receive constructive feedback on your portfolio, not to compare your work to the work of others.

Your portfolio should include your best and most recent work, but it can also include works in progress, sketches, designs, and tear sheets. We ask you to bring your original artwork whenever possible. We suggest that you do not spend time and money matting or framing your work. Keep your presentation simple; the work itself is what is of interest to us.

The National Portfolio Day Association (NPDA) was created in 1978, solely for the organization and planning of National Portfolio Days. The Association consists of representatives that hold regional accreditation and accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), or Substantial Equivalency status. NPDA is the only organization of its kind and the membership represents the highest standard of visual arts education available in the world. Learn more about the National Portfolio Day Association member schools on the Members page.
