Mapping Borders: a Walk Examining Borders within NYC

Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm

University Center Lobby (meeting point), Lobby 63 Fifth Ave

This interactive performance event brings together activists, artists, and public intellectuals to walk through borders in the city visible and invisible. Charting Ai Wei Wei’s border wall installations across Manhattan, we find ourselves at the city's immigration detention center at Varick Street, where we consider the material reality of the border, and the direct impact is has on people’s lives. The event finishes at Judson Memorial Church where we hear from activists challenging the border on an everyday basis in NYC and suggestions on how to engage in localized ways. Featured guests include Bridget Anderson (Professor of Migration, Mobilities and Citizenship at the University of Bristol) and the New Sanctuary Coalition.

This event is part of the Zolberg Institute’s performance and film series: pictures in motion. of motion. for motion.

Presented/Sponsored by The New School’s Zolberg Institue on Migration and Mobility.
