The Design and Development Symposium, Making Cities3: Innovation, Incubation, Inclusion, is part of a three year research project between the Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok), University of Buenos Aires and the New School and will focus on three cities: Bangkok, Buenos Aires and New York through a multidisciplinary approach.

While the previous seminar in Buenos Aires in May of 2013 focused heavily on issues of inclusion/exclusion, the upcoming Symposium hopes to extend our study to the productive side of the economy. In order to better understand the complex dynamics of the maker economy within cities and the areas of convergence between design and the social sciences in each of the three cities we will explore three central themes: innovation, incubation and inclusion.

The Dean’s Panel is the final event in the four day Design and Development Symposium, (September 20-24, 2014). Deans from the three organizing universities have been invited to discuss the themes of the Symposium, and in particular, the ways in which their programs and Universities are engaging with such topics.

Invited speakers include:

 - Michelle DePass, Dean, the Milano School of International Affairs, Management & Urban Policy, New School for Public Engagement,

 - Brian McGrath, Dean, School of Constructed Environments, Parsons, the New School for Design,

 - Allison Mears, Dean, School of Design Strategies, Parsons, the New School for Design,

 - Ariel Misuraca, Professor, General Secretary, Facultad de Arquitectura, Diseno y Urbanismo, Universidad de Buenos Aires, speaking on behalf of Luis Bruno, Dean Facultad de Arquitectura, Diseno y Urbanismo, Universidad de Buenos Aires,

 - Pongsak Vadhanasindhu, Dean, Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University

This event is part of the New School's Climate Action Week and is co-sponsored by the Milano School of International Affairs, Management and Urban Policy, the Observatory on Latin America, the Parsons School of Constructed Environments, and the Parsons School of Design Strategies.
