In the spirit of creating spaces of engagement and openness, the International Contemporary Ensemble will collaborate with members of the College of Performing Arts community on a performance of Pauline Oliveros’ Earth Ears.
Oliveros’ work cultivates a co-dependent system of generative and responsive music expressions. A successful performance of this piece incorporates many of the tenets that are critical to collaborating with equity, openness, and inclusivity. One cannot make a sound without listening to one’s fellow performers. At the same time, no sound gets made unless a performer takes a risk to initiate something. The result is a looping, layered complex of sounds with internal awareness, symbiosis, and a myriad of external access points for the audience.
We are excited to host this discussion on "Creating (in) a more Just Society" and a performance of Earth Ears by Pauline Oliveros, together with students from the College of Performing Arts at The New School.

The ensemble’s 35 members are featured as soloists, chamber musicians, commissioners, and collaborators with the foremost musical artists of our time.
A recipient of the American Music Center’s Trailblazer Award and the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, ICE was also named the 2014 Musical America Ensemble of the Year.
