Economics Seminar Series - Jermaine Toney

Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Albert and Vera List Academic Center, #1009 6 East 16th Street , New York, NY 10003

Jermaine Toney, Post-Doc Research Fellow from Cornell University will present his paper “How Extended Family Health Affect Household Portfolio Allocations”.

Abstract: Growing research links household financial decisions and health status within the nuclear family. However, the focus on the nuclear family underestimates the health-wealth effect. Wealth can decline by as much as $14,000 when a sibling with low income experiences stroke, cancer, lung disease, or a heart attack. Panel data shows mental health status of siblings affects a households’ portfolio choice decisions.
