Towards a community-based architecture: How do we build in and with local community now?

This public program looks at examples of current initiatives in New York City in which citizens, designers, and other stakeholders try—and sometimes succeed—to develop vibrant public space with and for a community, with a balance between top-down planning and community-based control, while respecting essential health and safety codes and private property. We will bring together engaged community members, representatives of organizations, and designers in a discussion about the design development of social spaces in NYC’s underserved neighborhoods.
