Days of Arts and Ideas: “Finding the 51st (dream) State” (public screening/panel)

Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Wollman Hall, Eugene Lang College 65 West 11th Street Room B500, New York, NY 10011

Immerse yourself in the ‘research-to-performance’ methods of poet and activist, Sekou Sundiata through a weekend-long series of performances and workshops that apply the theory of “Making as a Way of Thinking” to contemporary theater, activism, and art making, while exploring the intersection of Art, Imagination, Humanities, and Public Engagement.

Join in a communal exploration of American identity and citizenship through artistic expression. The evening begins with a screening of Sekou Sundiata’s Finding the 51st (dream) State, followed by a community sing of “This Land is Your Land,” led by the Woody Guthrie Foundation and the bluegrass/folk band The Idiot Brigade. A panel moderated by Will Power (playwright, performer, director, educator), Cecilia Rubino (assistant professor of Theater, Eugene Lang College), and Brian Lewis (former student of Sundiata and current New School professor) will follow.

Presented by Eugene Lang College the New School for Liberal Arts and MAPP International Productions.
