Yu Nong Khew | Built Environment/Healthy Materials
Khew is a designer, researcher, and cofounder of <+>, a design and research collective focusing on how social and cultural changes interface physically and digitally with the im/material boundaries of the built environment. She has previously taught at Columbia University GSAPP, Singapore University of Technology and Design, in collaboration with MIT and Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc). Yu Nong has worked with award winning design practices, Zaha Hadid Architecture, and most recently as Project Director at Asymptote Architecture where she directed numerous projects ranging from a line of smart lighting products to a master plan for a new city in China incorporating interior robotic and smart technologies.
Her talk will feature research and design work including interior installations for Etsy’s new headquarters using healthy materials and rapid prototyping technologies, a smart home compost system and a 100% compostable bio-leather made from post-industrial waste. She has been exhibited internationally, and was named by Architectural Review as one of ten emerging design voices from around the world. Yu Nong’s work also received the top prize for American Institute of Architects (AIA) Los Angeles Chapter’s 2x8 Verge award. More recently, she was named "Great Women of Our Time" for Design and Style in Singapore. Yu Nong has a Master of Architecture from SCI-Arc, and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the National University of Singapore.
