Boren Scholarship National Deadline

Students

Boren Award applications for study abroad in academic year 2019-2020 are now open. Boren applicants from The New School may submit their applications by January 8, 2019 to have The New School Boren Campus Committee review and evaluate their applications before the national deadlines. At large applicants may still apply independently for Boren Scholarships by January 30, 2019 and for Boren Fellowships by February 7, 2019.

Boren Scholarships and Fellowships, www.borenawards.org, an initiative of the National Security Education Program (NSEP), provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. All award winners must commit to the NSEP service requirement following completion of their study abroad program.

Boren Scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students have maximum awards of: $8,000 for a summer program (for STEM students only; 8 weeks minimum program duration), $10,000 for a semester, and $20,000 for a 6-12 months program

Boren Fellowships for U.S. graduate students have maximum awards of: $12,000 for a semester overseas, $24,000 for a year overseas, and $30,000 for combined domestic and overseas study.
