Black Lunch Table, Artists' Table

Black Lunch Table, Artists' Table

Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Gallery, Sheila C. Johnson Design Center
General Public

Join us for lunch and an interdisciplinary and intergenerational critical discussion with cultural producers on topics directly affecting the global community.

This event is part of In the Historical Present, an exhibition in the Anna-Maria & Stephen Kellen Gallery featuring commissioned artworks, artist-led engagements and performances, and works drawn from the New School's art collection and archives in celebration of the university’s Centennial. Black Lunch Table is an ongoing collaboration between artists Jina Valentine and Heather Hart, which intends to fill holes in the documentation of contemporary art history. Bringing creative practitioners of color to the table, participants engage in critical conversations about issues vital to their communities. Wikipedia edit-a-thons and archival projects gather information and documentation in order to increase visibility of people of color in historically biased cultural and scholarly institutions. Black Lunch Table has been invited to host conversations and events at Market Photo Workshop (Johannesburg, South Africa), The High Line (New York City), Eastern Illinois University (Charleston, Illinois), Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee), University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and other venues.

This event is part of The New School's Centennial celebration. Learn more at newschool.edu/100 • #100YearsNew
