BEAVER exhibition | readings | performance | discussion

Friday, April 18, 2014 at 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm

4th Floor Skybridge, 65 W 11th Street and Klein Conference Room, 510, 66 W 12th Street

Beaver is a multi-disciplinary exhibition, performance, and discussion delving into contemporary feminist perspectives on pornography, gender performance, and female sexual self-expression. Inspired by artist Naomi Elena Ramirez’s work of the same name which interrogates porn culture and female sexual expression through dance and visual scores for the body, this exhibition, curated by Ramirez and Kristen Sollee of the sex positive feminist site seeks to create discourse, awareness, and community.

The exhibition features over a dozen contemporary female artists whose work delves into female sexuality and women’s embodied experiences through photography, painting, drawing, collage, performance and video art. Following screenings, readings by the Red Umbrella Project, and a performance of Ramirez’s piece, the opening event will culminate in a discussion regarding intersections of sex, race, gender, and sexuality in art, media representations, and lived experiences.

Join us Friday April 18 from 6:00-7:00 p.m., for drinks and snacks on the 4th floor Skybridge at 65 West 11th Street to view the exhibition.

The opening event at 8:00-10:00pm, which includes screenings, readings, performance, and discussion will begin in the Klein Conference Room (510), 66 W 12th Street.

Sponsored by the First Year & Gender Studies programs at Eugene Lang College.
