The New School for Performing Arts: Silent Movie Night

Co-hosted by Matthew Broderick, this film screening will feature contemporary music performed by ensembles from Mannes College The New School for Music and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music to the silent films Sherlock Jr. (Buster Keaton) and The Immigrant (Charlie Chaplin).

Under the direction of Charles Neidich, the Mannes theater orchestra will perform an original score by composer Craig Marks to Sherlock Jr.  Craig Marks will give a pre-concert talk.

The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music is proud to present the premiere of Alexis Cuadrado's original score of Charlie Chaplin's silent film The Immigrant. The score integrates diverse genres such as ragtime, modern jazz and new music. It will be performed by a 10-piece ensemble formed by students, alumni and faculty, and conducted by the composer. 

Barcelona-born and Brooklyn based Alexis Cuadrado is an award winning composer, bassist and educator. Cuadrado's compositions show a unique voice that draws from the crossover of jazz, new music and often times flamenco. NPR music states “Listen to Cuadrado’s compositions and you’ll find every reason to take him seriously.”
