Directed and arranged by faculty member Richard Boukas, this performance will feature Brazil's unique form of popular chamber music known as Choro.
A multi-genre body of repertoire whose roots date back to the mid-nineteenth century, Boukas's arrangements embody the art of authentic choro performance practice.
"Celebrating Pixinguinha and His Contemporaries" will pay special tribute to the prolific twentieth century composer Pixinguinha, works by contemporaries Jacob do Bandolim, Radamés Gnattali, Waldyr Azevedo and seminal composers Ernesto Nazareth, Chiquinha Gonzaga and Anacleto de Medeiros. Founded in 2008, the ensemble is comprised of three woodwinds, three guitarists (Boukas being one of them), bass and percussion. Read program notes and other information.
