"The Girls in the Band" Screening and Panel Discussion: Charlie Parker Jazz Fest @ The New School

Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm

School of Jazz Performance Space, Room I531, Arnhold Hall 55 West 13th Street, New York, NY 10011

The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music and the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival present a free screening of the award-winning music documentary, The Girls In The Band, which tells the poignant, untold stories of female jazz and big band instrumentalists and their fascinating, groundbreaking journeys from the late 30′s to the present day. These incredibly talented women endured sexism, racism and diminished opportunities for decades, yet continued to persevere, inspire and elevate their talents in a field that seldom welcomed them.

Following the screening will be a panel discussion featuring director Judy Chaikin, legendary singer Sheila Jordan, drummer Kim Thompson,  and moderator Dr. Lara Pellegrinelli

This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, general admission, no reservations.
