In 1957, when the Schneider Concerts series was founded, excellent, financially and physically accessible chamber music was a rarity. Lincoln Center had just been built, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center was still more than a decade away.
Founding artistic director Alexander Schneider saw this need and brought outstanding, affordable concerts to The New School. He led brilliant chamber orchestra performances, introduced exceptional young artists and ensembles, and brought new music to the series — all at ticket prices anyone could afford. Today audiences still need outstanding, accessible, affordable, and adventurous concerts. The 2016-2017 season honors Alexander Schneider and the tradition he established.
The series mission is to provide exposure for outstanding emerging professional chamber artists and to present high-quality chamber music performances at modest ticket prices to ensure access for all New Yorkers.
PLEASE NOTE: Seats are not assigned. Those with special seating needs may enter at 1:15pm to choose their seats. The doors open at 1:30pm to the general public.
The Schneider Concerts Series is made possible with support from the Alexander Schneider Foundation and with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council.
