Riggio Forum: Rennie Sparks

Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 6:30 pm

Wollman Hall, Eugene Lang College 65 West 11th Street Room B500, New York, NY 10003

Rennie Sparks is one-half of the numinous folk duo The Handsome Family, a twenty-year song-writing collaboration between Rennie, who writes lyrics, and her husband Brett, who composes music.

From “Drunk by Noon” on Milk and Scissors in 1996 to “I Know You Are There” on Twilight in 2001 to “The Petrified Forest” on Honeymoon in 2009 to the present day, their songs are haunted by American history and a search for the mysterious in the mundane, the surrealism of every day life. Their latest album, Wilderness, a companion to Sparks's book of essays and art of the same name, will form the ground of Sparks’s lecture.

Moderated by Greil Marcus, faculty, School of Writing.
