School of Jazz Performance Space, Arnhold Hall 55 West 13th Street, New York, NY 10011

WORLD PREMIERE SCREENING

Oulaya's Wedding (2017) 60 min. Group Doueh is one of the most beloved bands in the occupied territory of Western Sahara, morphing between acoustic and electric modes with members of their family and friends joining the band as the mood requires over the last 27 years. They invited Sublime Frequencies to the wedding of their eldest daughter Oulaya. This documentary provides a special glimpse into the lives of people living on our planet, their minds, their music, their homes, ceremonies, and parties! An absolutely beautiful document: rich and intimate.

Film Screening, followed by Q&A with director and ethnographer Hisham Mayet and co-directors Cyrus Moussavi and Brittany Nugent. Moderated by New School faculty member, Dr. Lara Pellegrinelli

If you would like the rare chance to see Group Doueh live, you can catch them on Sep 29 at LPR. For more info visit http://bit.ly/GroupDoueh
