New School Climate Ribbon Tying: Earth Week 2016

New School Climate Ribbon Tying: Earth Week 2016

Vera List Courtyard, Alvin Johnson/J.M. Kaplan Hall
General Public

Stop by the Lang Courtyard and answer the question:

"How do you reimagine the interactions between people and the planet?"

The Climate Ribbon is the climate movement’s equivalent of the AIDS Quilt—a mass distributed art-ritual to grieve what each of us stands to lose to Climate Chaos, and affirm our solidarity as we unite to fight against it.

After its launch at the People’s Climate March in New York in September 2014, the Climate Ribbon made its way to Paris for the COP21 climate negotiations. Now you can join the movement and let your voice be heard in the resistance to climate change during Earth Week at The New School.

The process is simple: in a moment of deep reflection, write on a ribbon how you reimagine the interactions between people and the planet. Tie your ribbon to the benches, handrails, or tree to share it with others. Together, our promises will weave a giant tapestry of commitment among all of us for a healthy, sustainable planet.

TEDC supports students and faculty from across the university as they apply policy, design, and social justice perspectives to address critical environmental issues generated by the impacts of climate change and other environmental threats to community well-being.

We want to learn of your ideas and how we might support them. Visit the Lang Courtyard between noon and 1:00 pm to write your ideas on a ribbon and hang it for others to see and engage.

Ribbons will also be available in the TEDC office (on the 16th Floor of 79 5th Avenue) all week. Stop by to write your answer, and we will deliver it to the courtyard the following day. Tweet your answer to us at @NewSchoolTEDC using the hashtag #ClimateRibbon and TEDC will create a ribbon for you.

This event is sponsored by the Tishman Environment and Design Center, as part of Earth Week at The New School.
