Food Design: You Eat What You Are

Food Design: You Eat What You Are

Wollman Hall, Eugene Lang College
General Public

Co-organized with the Director of Integrated Design, SDS, Adam Brent and Coordinator of Food Studies, NSPE, Fabio Parasecoli:

Food Design: You Eat What You Are

Design plays a crucial role in understanding many aspects of how food becomes part of our life, at the individual and communial levels, from the shape of a fork and the ways in which kitchens can minimize environmental impact, to the visual elements of a dining room and the sustainable organization of food purveyor networks. This panel discussion brings to light overlapping areas in food and design, exploring how design goes beyond creating objects, envisioning experiences, systems and connections. Topics include designing with food, the science of food design and nutrition, food hacks, and designing for food services in the built environment.

Guest Speakers:

•    Moderator: Fabio Parasecoli, Associate Professor and Food Studies Coordinator, New School for Public Engagement
•    Stephani Bardin, artist and curator

•    Rositsa Ilieva, Post-doctorate Research Fellow, The New School

•    Pedro Reissig, designer

•    Brian Sullivan, pastry chef and product designer

Sponsored by the BFA in Integrated Design, School of Design Strategies, Parsons The New School for Design and the Food Studies Program at The New School for Public Engagement.

This will also be livestreamed at new.livestream.com/TheNewSchool/food-design during the event.
