Equal Means Equal - Film Screening

Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm

John L. Tishman Auditorium, University Center , Auditorium 63 Fifth Avenue, Room U100, New York, NY 10003

In honor of Women History Month and as part of the Henry Cohen Lecture Series, we invite you to join us for the film screening Equal Means Equal immediately following a panel discussion.

EQUAL MEANS EQUAL offers an unflinching look at how women are treated in the United States today. Examining both real-life stories and precedent-setting legal cases, director Kamala Lopez uncovers how outdated and discriminatory attitudes inform and influence seemingly disparate issues, from workplace harassment to domestic violence, rape and sexual assault to the foster care system, and the healthcare conglomerate to the judicial system. Along the way, she reveals the inadequacy of present laws that claim to protect women, ultimately presenting a compelling and persuasive argument for the urgency of ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment.

The panel discussion following the screening will be moderated by  Maya Wiley, Senior Vice President for Social Justice at The New School and the Henry Cohen Professor of Urban Policy and Management at the New School’s Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy.  Other panelists to be announced.

This event is hosted by the New SchoolMilano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy, and Women at The New School as part of the Henry Cohen Lecture series and in association with Maureen A Bryan, Founder of THE VOICE OF A WOMAN

Doors open at 5:30PM.  Please bring your receipt of your confirmation for entry.
